Scholars in management and economics widely share the assumption that firms focus on profits only, while it is the task of the state to provide public goods. However, management scholars within the field of business ethics increasingly question the tendency to categorize firms solely as economic actors, and governments as the primary political actors and argue that there is a business case for CSR whereby companies and society can both benefit.
