It is important to understand that innovation is a multidisciplinary process that should not be seen as an R&D function. For example, innovation is successful when utilized by everyone in the business. It does in fact require collaboration with cross$-$functional teams among employees to develop new products. On my previous job, I worked with teams in the following departments: engineering, IT department, marketing, sales, operations, and finance. The expertise from the departments was vital in developing new products for our company. Our leadership encouraged employee collaboration and was open to new innovative ideas to improve the success of the business.
