Question:
It is springtime and Ms. Walkins's (4th year English & Drama teacher) advanced drama class (mostly Juniors and Seniors) is working on monologues. Students had many options and themes they could choose from. Some students were writing parodies that depicted some of their favorite teachers or coaches. Jessica was a senior, a fairly good drama student, an athlete, a member of the National Honor Society and already accepted at one of the state universities for next fall. Her monologue was on the school's principal, Ms. Green. This was Ms. Green's 3d year as principal. The school was making improvements in their standardized test scores in most subject matters and at the grade levels. Overall, her reception within the school was mixed among faculty and students. When Jessica gave her monologue, it was well received by her classmates, the kind of satire that many of her classmates connected with because of their experiences with Ms. Green, while others may have had mixed feelings due to its caustic nature. Regardless, Ms. Walkins gave her an A for her performance on the project. However, neither Jessica nor Ms. Walkins were aware that the news of the monologue made it back to Ms. Green. Within a day, Jessica was called to the assistant principal's office and she was notified that the word was out about her monologue. Because of the nature of her monologue, she was going to receive a zero on the assignment for Ms. Walkins's class. She was also notified that she was facing possible suspension proceedings and the assistant principal would conduct the investigation and proceedings. The NHS would be also notifying her concerning her possible dismissal from the society.
