Determining Labor Supply

The human resources planning process requires companies to forecast labor demand and labor supply. An important element of determining internal labor supply is analyzing how individuals move through various positions in an organization and what categories of employees are exiting the organization. A transitional matrix is a tool that facilitates this analysis by indicating the proportion of employees at different points in time. The rows of the transitional matrix help you answer questions about where groups of workers go between two time periods. The columns help you answer questions about where workers came from into positions in the later time period.
