j Project This course is designed to acquaint you with criminological theory, criminal behavior and its relation to the criminal justice system and, if nothing more, to help you become a more informed citizen. The goal of this paper is for you to apply what you have learned about criminological theory to explain criminal behavior. I have given you the option of applying criminological theory to explain either a particular form of crime or a specific offender. OPTION 1: You are being asked to select a specific form of criminal behavior and develop a theoretical framework that attempts to explain the behavior you have chosen (is. developing a theory that will explain murder). You should utilize your readings, research, and class discussion when formulating your theory. You can combine theories we have covered in class, bring in new theories about the selected form of crime, or develop your own theory. You will need to support your theoretical explanations with research. OPTION 2: You may also select a specific offender (Bundy, Manson, etc) and develop a theoretical framework that attempts to explain their crimes. If you chose this option you will need to present some background information regarding the offender (i.e. family history, type of offender, etc.). You will also need to discuss what type of crimes the offender committed, why the committed their crimes, and how your theory helps explain their behavior. You will need to support your theoretical explanations with research. There is no page limit for your paper, but typical papers are approximately 4-5 pages. The key to a high quality paper is for you to completely discuss the ethical issues related to your selected topic, so select a topic that is of some interest to you. Your papers should be in APA format. You will need to include a title page and reference page (these are not included in the number of pages). You will need to utilize resources outside of your textbook (i.e. databases, journal articles, books, etc) that will help you explain your selected theoretical explanation. You will need to cite your research within your paper utilizing the APA format. You can find more information regarding APA format on the library's website or accessing Purdue Owl
