Question:
Janet is a young (early 20s) new staff member who has been working on community program with Jason a more experienced older staff member in your organisation. You have been supervising Janet since she began work at the community centre where you Janet and Jason work. You have had 6 supervision sessions with Janet and a supervision relationship based on trust has developed. Supervision sessions so far have focused on; inducting Janet into the organisation; established a supervision contract; and setting goals and tasks for her to achieve. Janet has successfully oriented herself to the organisation and has been given the task of working with Jason to establish a community task force aimed at discovering and responding to the needs of a small ethnic group in your community. Janet attends supervision sessions on a regular basis (once a week at this stage because she is new to the work and the organisation). She has been working well with you as her supervisor and is keen to learn and achieve the goals and tasks that you have discussed together in supervision session. Janet prepares effectively for supervision sessions and always sends through an agenda of matters for discussion prior to attending supervision. All has been going well.
Janet is attending her 7th supervision session with you. She arrives in a highly distressed state. As the session unfolds, she discloses that she is experiencing sexual harassment from Jason. How will you respond to Janet?
