Java FX. How do I get a valid path from a directory chooser for the files in the directory? When I use file chooser for an individual file, I get

file:/C:/Users/Aunt/Pictures/Camera%20Roll/WIN_20170918_18_17_54_Pro.jpg which enables me to bring up the image. When I choose a directory using directory chooser, I keep getting invalid stuff, and forward slashes.

I'm completely stumped and desperate. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
