Jean Munyutu is an African student who went to France on a trip to study to be a pastry chef. He met and became friends with Francois Dubois. After spending some time together and becoming friends, they decided they would apply to be students at a University in Canada. Jean applied for the first time and got accepted to the school in Montreal, Canada. In addition, he also received a scholarship for his outstanding work and skills to go to school. The scholarship would cover all of his costs, and in addition, he has enough money saved in his Bank account to show financial stability and affordability. Francois was excited to message his friend and tell him he had gotten into the school. To his surprise, so did Jean. They both then applied to immigration Canada to gain access into Canada. Some classes were held online to start the semester, so Jean and Francois enrolled. As school started a couple of months later Francoise went across to Canada to settle in as he was granted status. To his dismay Jean found out that he was denied his visa application after having started school and already spending money. The reason given was that they were not convinced that you would leave Canada after his studies. The letter stated that given the limited number of job offers in your country and given your current employment situation, and lastly, taking into account his financial situation, his application was not successful. He was so shocked that he called the immigration office to find out what had happened. He managed to get to speak to one of the Immigration officers, who told him he was denied because he could not prove his intentions of returning home to his country after his studies had been completed. The immigration officer who denied Jean his application was overheard by a Black worker in the immigration office saying, "We don't need those people in this country. They only want to come here to use our resources and take our jobs; they are a drain on our tax base. They only want to come here to get access to Canada. They are fooled by the marketing the companies sell them in their home country." Jean subsequently applied another three times for each semester but was still denied. Francois can move on with his studies and life, while Jean feels trapped and does not know where to go. Jean found out throughout the process that French-speaking African students are denied applications to come and study in Canada at a much higher rate than any other group or country in the world. Jean heard about a student group that had formed and had a lawyer trying to help them get a visa and immigrate to Canada for schooling. When he joined the group, he found out that another 50 students from his country had been denied, just like him, for the same reasons of not being allowed into the country. It is assumed that these students want to stay in Canada and are acting in bad faith in their applications. However, the question is. Is that different for students of other countries and/or people around the world who are accepted? Jean Munyutu is an African student who went to France on a trip to study to be a pastry chef.
