Question:
Below is a description of the business policies for John’s auto shop revenue cycle. You will use this information to properly identify the cardinality in the REA model:
John’s Auto Shop is an automotive maintenance and repair shop located in Phoenix AZ. The shop is owned by John, and he employees several ASE-certified mechanics as full-time employees. The shop’s administrative functions are primarily run by John’s wife, Amy, who is also an employee of the company.
When a new customer calls the shop or walks in to the office, Amy creates a customer file in the database and records pertinent information about the customer and his or her vehicle(s). Each customer and each vehicle receive a unique identifier in the database.
Customers must schedule appointments with Amy to have their cars serviced. Amy schedules the appropriate amount of time needed based on the customer’s request for a specific service (e.g., brake repair, oil change, radiator replacement). Many times a customer will have more than one service done on their car.
When the customer arrives, a mechanic receives the work order from Amy and begins work to fill the request. The mechanics record any inventory used during the service (e.g., oil filter, brake pads, radiator) onto the work order which will be used for the billing. Once the work is complete, the floor manager checks the mechanics work and then signs off on the work order as complete, and brings it to Amy who creates an invoice for the customer, and collects payment.
