Journal Article:
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1046/j.1365-2133.1997.d01-1144.x
Identify the main design components about the article attached
- Research question(What do they want to know?
- Observation vs experimental(are they watching or implementing)
- Sampling scheme(who did they sample and how?)
- Experimental design components(blinding, randomization, treatments, if applicable)
- Data collection methods(what did they collect and how did they do it?)
Once you have identified each one, I want you to imagine how the research could have been different. The research question stays the same, but what would it look like to change it from an observational study to an experiment? What if they used a different method of selecting the sample? What would happen if we did paired treatments instead of randomized? Could they use a different tool to measure the data?
Pick 3 aspects you could change to make a new experiment - note they don't have to be better than what is in the paper, just different. Again, do not change the research question, only the design aspects.
Figure out a way to present both the original and your changes. (I'd recommend a graphic organizer but there are a lot of options!)
