Question:
Journaling is an important learning tool because it actively engages students to reflect on the materials covered in class and integrate it with their own experiences and perceptions. The journal assignment should be a minimum of 350 words. No particular format is required. Journals should be submitted on the following weeks: 2, 4,6, and 8
Journal assignments will be graded on the following criteria and are worth a maximum of 3 points each:
- Relevance - Is what is written relevant to the topic, question, video, podcast? Did the student use relevant work/life experience?
- Application - Did the student appropriately discuss and apply the covered course materials to very specific real-life examples or scenarios.
- Quality - Was the thinking and analysis of high quality? Did the assignment meet the word requirement?
IMPORTANT: The journal should not be a summary of the course readings but should focus on very specific ways that you have or plan to apply the course concepts. I'd like to have you identify a specific scenario where you apply specific key learnings/course concepts. When identifying a specific scenario, consider including the people involved, the organization, and what you plan to accomplish. If you are able to see the results during this course, then consider sharing what worked or what didn't.
For those of you who are working, consider using specific examples within your organization. If you are not currently working, consider prior organizations and reflecting on a prior scenario and how you would have applied your learnings/course concepts. If you are not currently working, consider discussing scenarios regarding your learning teams, church, community, or civic groups that you might be part of.
As with most assignments for this course, I'd like you to focus on the experiential learning model below where application of course concepts and your key learnings is the key to higher-level learning.
