Overview

In this case, you will be constructing an interactive Tableau dashboard that you will use to analyze sales transactions for a fictitious manufacturing company, KAT Manufacturing. Each sales record contains information on division, customer location, market, and more. This case is based on data for a real$-$life company. All data and names have been anonymized to protect the proprietary nature of the data.

Data dictionary

The dashboard is built based on a data set provided to you in Excel. The data set contains two sheets of data. Sheet one contains sales data, and sheet two contains customer data. To use the dashboard effectively, you need to understand the underlying data. The field names in this data set are:

Customer number: This field contains an alphanumeric field containing a unique number for each customer.

Division: This field contains the location of the division making the sale.

Customer location: This field contains the location of the customer. Note that a customer may purchase from a division not located in the same geographic location as the customer, due to differences in products sold by each division.

Category: This field contains the category of product sold $($Govt$,$ R & D and Other; Materials Processing; Medical; and Telecom.$)$

Market: This field contains the target market for this product $($Aerospace; Auto; BB Access; Consumer Products; DWDM Transport; Electronics; Free Space; General Mfg; Laboratory; Marking; Medical Device; Printing; Research; Semiconductor; Ships; Telecom; and Unknown.$)$
