This Paper's Topic

I know that there are a lot of 'housekeeping details' that are attached to our first week of this accelerated 8-week class, so I have decided to offer this paper as an extra credit option for your first week.

For this paper, we are comparing the criminal justice system in the U.S. to other countries. Comparatively speaking, the United States arrests and incarcerates more kids than any other country on Earth; leaving some to ponder the cause of this phenomenon. I would like you to consider this topic as you answer the questions (listed below in the assignment).

Learning Goal

Written assignments provide you with an opportunity to explain what you are learning. Each of the topics for our writing assignments explores the nature and extent of your understanding of the required learning outcomes that must be covered during this semester. When I read your papers they allow me to evaluate your learning in a more comprehensive way.

  • Examine the concept of at-risk behaviors and status offending, the measurement of delinquency, and the trends and patterns in delinquency rates.
  • Analyze the balance of theory, law, policy, and practice as they relate to juvenile delinquency.

Instructions

Consider this: More children are arrested in the United States than anywhere else on Earth. I'd like you to consider why this might be the case. Imagine how one's growth and maturity are based on core values and internal characteristics.
