Question:
Kouzes & Posner (2017) indicated that to become a great leader, you must first discover your own authentic voice. In essence, as a leader how comfortable are you as an individual with the skills and talents that you possess, what do you as the leader care about, what are the qualities and attributes that you possess, which cause you to be at your best and what behaviors help to characterize your beliefs, and further define your style as a leader?
Leaders play an integral role in organizations. Evidence suggests that the qualities and traits of a leader matter tremendously, particularly as it relates to helping to propel an organization forward. Some of the qualities and traits that leaders possess that differ from non-leaders include, (1) drive and ambition, (2) honesty/integrity, (3) self-confidence, (4) cognitive ability, (5) passion and the desire to lead, (6) knowledge of the business, and (7) the desire to achieve organizational change (Wren, 1995). Effective leaders have a relatively high desire for achievement, growth and advancement and high achievers tend to obtain a higher degree of satisfaction from completing tasks, attaining a standard of excellence, and developing better ways of doing things. Leaders who are ambitious about their work and demonstrate initiative and drive, are generally effective leaders and consistently push themselves and others around them toward achieving a common goal(Kouzes & Posner, 2017).
Question:
What can a leader to help others in the organization to envision the future? What are some examples of how a leader communicate a shared vision so that others will want to follow?
