Lab 1-1 Research Wireless Data Communications

Objectives

The main objective of this lab is to help you become familiar with some of the wireless terms that will be used throughout the course and in the book, Guide to Wireless Communications, 4^th Edition. By researching about various wireless technologies on the Web you will be able to recognize them as you go through the course and the text.

After completing this lab, you will be able to:

• List the different technologies described in the book
• Relate most of the terms discussed in the book to the applicable wireless technology

Materials Required

• A computer with Internet access
• A word processing application such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs

Activity

1. Use the Internet to search the web and write a one or two sentence definition of the technologies listed on the table. List one of the main applications for each technology for consumers or industry. Use Web sites such as www.webopedia.com, www.howstuffworks.com, www.whatis.com and others:
