Lab Structure: This lab has FOUR major tasks

Each major tasks has Requirements (smaller, sub-tasks) that go along with it. Each requirement states what needs to be accomplished. Each task has "tips" right below the requirements. The tips tell you how to accomplish the requirements. Of course, you should read documentation to figure things out as needed. Then, each Task will have one or more deliverables. These are what you turn in to receive credit. I've given you sample deliverables to make it easier. The assignment rubric provides the points for all deliverables.

I'd like you to learn more deeply about access control. Thus, please play attention to the sequence of task requirements. I'll ask you do do certain things to learn/appreciate IAM functionality and they make sense only if you do them in order listed.

(Detailed requirements for each task are given further below).

Task 1: Create two IAM Users (Alice and Bob), Set Permissions Boundary, and Assign Tags (attributes) as required

Task 2: Login Profiles, Default Permissions, and Permission Granting Policies using Groups

Task 3: Test Access Control Policy by simulating "Alice" and "Bob"

Task 4: Cleanup your AWS resources: Delete/Terminate All Resources You Created

Please follow these general requirements:

  • AWS Account to be used and How to access AWS Console

Please note that in this lab we're going to use some Identity and Access Management (IAM) functionality that cannot be completed in the AWS Educate Starter Accounts. Thus, I am requesting you to use my personal account. I've received a small grant from AWS to help add students to my account. I've created your individual user accounts. You can access the AWS Console from here and you will be able to complete all assigned tasks.

  • IMPORTANT: Throughout the lab you'll see ssoid being mentioned; either alone or in combination with something else such as ssoid-alice. Wherever you see ssoid, please replace it (only that part) with your SSOID from UMSL. For example, sakbm9-alice where sakbm9 is a student's SSOID. Please do it anytime you see ssoid below. The idea is that everything you create in this lab will be named using the pattern ssoid-nameofthing-xyz (always all lowercase). This way, I can keep track of each individual student's work.

  • IMPORTANT REQUEST: Please terminate all instances in EC2, and delete/terminate anything else you created once you have all screenshots and the assignment is complete. We do not want to run out of money as charges keep accruing for anything running.

  • Please follow the tasks in sequence.

  • Please insert all the deliverable screenshots into a word document, ensuring the pictures are clearly visible and upload the document when submitting. It'll help you keep track of your deliverables and also help me grade. Thanks!
