Question:
Late last spring (2020) during the Covid 19 Pandemic, a Diner in the Bronx (a New York City suburb/borough) started using its large parking lot as a Drive -In Movie Theatre. The Diner's Eat - In food and beverage business had been destroyed by the Covid 19 lock-down from Feb through April/May.
The Diner offered take out service during this time but it did not come close to the sales volume before the Covid pandemic and over 20 employees had to be laid off.
At the beginning of May, the owner had an inspiration thinking that they could use the Diner's large parking lot as a Drive In Theatre. He rented a giant screen similar to a Drive In Theatre and then started promoting this in early May- charging $20 per car (no limit on # of passengers) to watch a couple of "classic" movies. The Diner also provided take out food to all the customers (practicing proper social distancing) in the cars while they watched movies with families. The idea was a huge success - business increased substantially, and all the laid off employees were hired back.
