Leading for Productivity

This exercise will identify the behaviors team leaders engage in to develop and lead successful teams.

The goal of a team leader is to develop a productive team. Their goal is to identify and develop members who want to participate, to share ideas freely, and who know what they need to accomplish. Team leaders need to be good role models. They need to be trustworthy, cooperative, and team oriented. Team leaders need to be skillful at coaching, conflict management, and communication.

Read each description and classify as the appropriate team leader behavior.

Sergio has noticed that one team member has low levels of interpersonal skills and arranges for additional training for that team member.

Instead of criticizing the team when it has had a failure, Camille encourages team members to discuss how to improve on the next attempt.

Ryan is actively seeking employees who work well with others and have a team focus.

Michelle is making calls and scheduling meetings with other supervisors to discuss which employees work best on team projects.
