1. Choose a current age-related social issue in Canada. A social issue is something that we consider a problem in our society. In some way, the issue prevents the smooth operation of society and collectively we strive to remedy it. Social issues are often found represented in the news media.
2. Make an infographic that shows how the social issue relates to at least two social institutions. Your infographic will be assessed with the following criteria:
- Highlight the current age-related social issue in Canada. (2 point)
- Indicate the relationship between the social issue and the two social institutions you have chosen. (2 points)
- Select one of the three theoretical paradigms (i.e., structural functional, social conflict or symbolic interaction). Apply the paradigm to explain the relationship between one social institution and the social issue. (2 points)
- The visual communication of information. (4 points)
An infographic is a way to visually represent information. It allows us to see relationships and information easily without focusing on written texts. Use pictures, graphs, diagrams, drawings, and text to demonstrate the relationship between the social issue and society.
