Refer to these rules when adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing signed numbers. These rules never change!! ADDITION **If the signs are the same, add the numbers and place the sign. Ex. (+10) + (+30) = +40 (-3) + (-23) = -26 **If the signs are different, take the difference (subtract) and place the sign of the larger number. Ex. (+25) + (-15) = +10 (-16) + (+4) = -12
