What hints or clues are contained within the story to let the reader guess what the characters are talking about? (This is called foreshadowing). Why do you think Hemingway made this topic so subtle and secretive?
2. Conflict is another important aspect of literature. In The Cask of Amontillado, why do you think Montresor is so angry with Fortunato? What exactly do you think Fortunato did? What clues are present in the story to provide hints as to what Fortunato might have done? Do you think there is any way that Montresor is justified in killing Fortunado?
