Linear Programming question
There are three factories on the side of Momiss River. Each factory generates a certain amount of waste water each month (given in the following table) that would be poured into the river. Waste water from each factory contains two main types of pollutants, P1 and P2 that are dangerous for the environment. However, some or all of the waste water generated from each factory can be "processed" each month to reduce its content of pollutants before being poured into the river. The following table shows how many pounds of pollutants of each type are reduced if one ton of waste water from each factory is processed. The table also shows the cost of processing each ton of waste water from each of the factories. The state wants to require factories to process some or all of their waste water in order to reduce the total amount of P1 entering the river by at least 30 pounds and the total amount of P2 entering the river by at least 40 pounds each month The state asks you to formulate a linear programming problem to determine how much of waste water (in tons) from each factory has to be processed each month in order to reduce the water pollution by the desired amounts with the least total cost. (Hint: No unit conversion would be needed in this problem. Also the number of decision variables is less than 5.) Factory 1 Factory 2 Factory 3 0.10 0.20 0.40 Pounds of reduction in P1 per ton of waste water processed 0.45 0.25 0.30 Pounds of reduction in P2 per ton of waste water noressed Factory 1 Factory 2 Factory 3 0.10 Pounds of reduction in P1 per ton of waste water processed 0.20 0.40 0.45 0.25 Pounds of reduction in P2 per ton of waste water processed 0.30 Cost per ton of processing waste water $1500 $1000 $2000 Waste water generated each month (tons) 30 120 50 The following Excel file contains the above table in Excel format. It also contains a textbox that has an "ANSWER TEMPLATE": First COPY & PASTE the contents of this answer template in the answer box below, and use only the answer box below to answer the following questions. You can use Ctrl+V or Command+V for pasting. Note that you can resize the answer box by dragging the dots on bottom right corner (up/down) for better viewing. Include all of your answers only in the designated area in the answer template. Make sure that you provide the standard (and most simplified) form of each constraint. PART D) Find the optimal pollution reduction plan using Excel. Save this file on your computer for now (you still need to add content to this file in part F. and you will be asked on the next page to upload your Excel file). From your Excel spreadsheet also record the "optimal solution" and optimal objective only in the designated area in the answer template. PART E) The state would like to make sure that the percentage of waste water processed from factory 2 is between 50% to 70% of the total waste water "processed" (from all factories). Provide the algebraic form of this additional restriction for factory 2 only in the designated area in the answer template. Make sure that you provide the standard and most simplified) form PART F) Inside the Excel file you created in part D. make a copy of the sheet you created (keep both the original and copied sheets inside the same file). In the new copy, incorporate the added restriction from Part E. From your Excel spreadsheet record the "optimal solution" and "optimal objective only in the designated area in the answer template. On the next page, you will be asked to submit your Excel file (with the two sheets for parts D & Finside it). Edit View Insert Format Tools Table 12pt Paragraph Please help me!
