1. Open a terminal window and enter this command line to create a file on your desktop:

$ echo hi > Desktop/myfile.txt

2. Drag the file named myfile.txt from your users desktop to the trash bin.

NOTE: You may use any editor you want to do the following steps, but nano might be easiest.

3. (2 marks) Create only for your user an alias named rm that asks for confirmation before deleting a file.

4. (3 marks) Customize only your users primary command line prompt so it appears in the following format in every interactive shell that your user opens:

[13:04 /usr/share]

The prompt consists of the system time in HH:MM 24-hour format followed by the absolute pathname of his present working directory, both inside a set of square brackets.

5. (2 marks) Whenever your user logs out, delete all the visible files in ~/.local/share/Trash/files/

6. (2 marks) For only your user, prevent the overwriting of files by setting the noclobber option appropriately. You might need to ask your friend Google for help to do this.

7. (2 marks) For only your user, turn off the annoying You have new mail notice that appears from time to time. You might need to ask your friend Google for help to do this.

8. In a virtual console (which can be accessed, for example, by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2), log in as your personal user.

9. Confirm that your command line prompt is different than the system default.

10. Create a file in your users home directory and use your rm alias to remove it.

11. Log out your personal user from the virtual console using the logout command.

12. Switch from the virtual console to the X graphical environment by pressing either Ctrl-Alt-F1 or Ctrl-Alt-F7 (exactly which keystroke combination depends on how your system is set up).

13. Check your users trash bin on the desktop. It should be empty. If it isnt empty, you did not do step 9 correctly.

14. Once you have done all the above steps, output the entire contents of the three configuration files for your user that you modified and take ONE screenshot of the output (adjust the size of the text and/or terminal window to fit everything). Insert the screenshot below here and submit this assignment document to the appropriate dropbox.
