This assignment I will be analyzing, identifying, and examining a macro level problem that is concerning to a social service organization and our practice. As well as a macro level problem within the community. Macro level is a way to help vulnerable people on a large scale and to promote change in levels at an organization, society, and community (Netting, Kettner, McMurty & Thomas, 2017). As we have seen there has been many macro level issues that has affected communities throughout the entire US. One positive aspect on macro level it can focus on and privilege populations to be able to change system issues that can influence them. I believe that as a social worker, it is important to apply the macro level practice to help increase opportunities for people and help them to participate in proving policies. In the past years and now we see numerous of cities that have institutional racism and creates impact on the cities and communities what I have noticed is that institutional racism is personified by social institutions that include criminal justice, banking, housing, laws, employment, policies, voting, slavery, and earnings. The racial differences in the criminal justice system are more troubling where in 5.1 African Americans are more likely than to be imprisoned (Hetey & Eberhardt, 2016) Surveys has indicated that approximately 71% of African Americans / Blacks have experienced discrimination compared to 30% of white Americans. (Hetey & Eberhardt, 2018). In This case we see that a community faces major problems and institutional racism within the criminal justice.

Institutional Racism

Institutional racism has been described by certain systems and or institutions of unfairness policies and laws that helped to operate white Americans discriminate towards African-Americans/blacks. During the years of 1865 to 1965 in the US. Jim Crows Propose laws that impacted racism in many states. The rules that were authorized were to discriminate toward African American/ Blacks in venues restaurants schools jobs bathrooms drinking fountain, and many more locations in areas. Institutional racism was created to limit opportunities and limit access for African Americans. In addition, it was created to negatively affect African Americans /Blacks and has caused a lot of misinterpretation. Because institutional racism has caused to decline equal opportunities and separate African Americans/Blacks by diminishing services economics and their power. The treatment for African Americans/blacks has continued to be an equal and has caused one of the most significant social problems right now in this era.

Addressing the Problem

Institutional racism has been a huge problem to speak about because it has been a real problem and still is now. Why is this a problem? African American/Blacks have undergone a lot of injustice which has impacted on many of their lives through out of the many years. Although it can be difficult to speak upon institutional racism and a macro level, throughout the years the system has not addressed the deep-rooted problem that has originated from many segregated laws that has denied justice for African American/Blacks. Segregation was developed by Jim Crow. Jim Crow Creative discrimination laws in education and employment I am a criminal justice system. (Chaney, 2015). In the United States, about 58% prison population is African Americans/Blacks and Latinos (Erickson, 2014). The data that we have seen today has indicated how unequal treatment has been in the criminal justice system towards African Americans/blacks and Latinos. Since we have been seeing This happen more and more it has started to create more segregation in numerous cities neighborhoods and states. In 2011, about 60% of 2 million in prison population was racial minorities (Erickson, 2014) Because certain laws were passed it allowed the prisons to tree African Americans/ Blacks poorly and to demolish their respect and dignity. The process of dehumanization contributes to the explanation of how early settlers shifted from me society with slaves to a slave society (Seabrook & Wyatt-Nichol, 2016 p. 22). As of today, we still have not seen any changes in the justice system. There has not been any progress or change. During the 80s the war on drugs played in an enormous roll on the racial disparities of the imprisonment of many African Americans / Blacks and Latinos and state criminal justice system (Lyons, Lurigio, Roque & Rodriguez, 2013) The one on drugs affected many communities which created a lot of police brutality. Throughout the years we have seen racial profiling, severe sentencing, police shootings and has continued to get worse.

Summary of Peer-Reviewed Literature

The article NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE By Duran, voiced the Controversial of the shooting that happened in Denver Colorado in the past 30 years. The article speaks about how African American/blacks has been and are being treated and criminalize by the police. It has been sad to see lately in the media and use how many innocent African American/Blacks and Latinos are being killed and the police officers are not being charged with anything. The article mentioned two different theories that allows people to understand that racism is the foundation of law and order. Basically, the report expresses that racism is the key problem.

Theories

Two theories that may have impacted the problem our Social Dominance Theory (SDT) & Critical Race Theory (CRT). Critical race theory method can help by addressing racial discrimination and can focus on certain issues by educating others the foundation of the problem. I believe this Terry can help give a voice to oppressed marginalize the population and help people understand experiences (Duran, 2016) CRT and help ease the problem and promote diversity Social Dominance Theory (SDT) Offers awareness on unequal police violence against African Americans/Blacks and Latinos. Both series can understand the foundation of the races some problems.

Skills and Strategies

The strategies that were generated to help decrease the problem or to change the segregated laws and to make equality laws. The goal would be that everyone in society to get the same fair treatment. Another important fact is to educate others especially other ethnic groups about the experiences that African Americans/Blacks and Latinos have gone through and continue to go through. I think that these strategies can help the world better understand her racism in society has affected the world, people, and society. The biggest aspect throughout all of this is to raise awareness to all.
