Major Assignment Part [ Please review the Research Project Overview hand out and Lecture 4 prior to beginning this section. Part 1 is the Research Project, prior to implementing the desired study. This consists of: 1. Title Page 2. Introduction a. Introduction statement b. Research Question c. Significance Statement Sections of the Paper 1. TITLE. Should be clear, brief and describe the research conducted. An example is \"How College Freshmen Perceive Beer Advertisements\". It does not need to be in quotes, but should be capitalized and appear on the cover sheet. 2. INTRODUCTION STATEMENT. Introduce the reader to your topic. Provide essential background information to help the reader understand the research question. Explain or define your topic. How prevalent is it? Who is affected by it? Reference any idea that is not your own! At the end of this section, include two sub-sections with sub-headings: Research Question. State the research question. Be clear and specific. You may have one central question and additional smaller ones. An example is \"What are the attitudes of college freshmen toward beer advertisements? How do these advertisements influence their decisions about drinking beer? Are males and females different in their attitudes and decisions? If so, how?\" Significance Statement. Why is your study important to research? Why is it important to answer this question? How will it help people become healthier and/or better consumers? Part 2 I. Required revisions from Part | 2. Literature Review 3. Reference List Sections of the Paper LITERATURE REVIEW. This section is your summary of other published literature on the topic. It should take the ideas introduced in the Introduction and expand on them. It should also provide information on pertinent related topics that have bearing on your topic. To continue with the example on freshmen and beer consumption, you might discuss the related topics of the relationship between beer consumption and academic success, drinking and driving, stressors faced by freshmen, underage drinking and general advertising concepts (what are the goals of advertisements and how do they achieve them). This is not an annotated bibliography. Most of your references will be in this section. Make sure you reference any idea that is not your own. Cite it in the paper and list it at the end. A citation within the body of a paper looks like this: More than 70% of college freshmen reported drinking beer on at least one occasion during their first year of school (Jones & Bume, 1997). Your sources should be professional and scientific. A minimum of SIX scholarly references is required. Magazines (Health, Muscle & Fitness, Glamour, Prevention) are not peer-reviewed and unbiased and should not be the basis of the literature review. They should also be current (less than 5 years old if possible) and reflect the latest information on a topic. Be careful about internet sources. If you do not know the organization or author it is best to not use the source. You must use .gov, .org, or .edu. You are REQUIRED to use at least two professional journal articles (and not just internet sources). REFERENCE LIST. All papers must include an accurate and complete reference list. Your paper will be returned ungraded without one. Any information gained from an interview, journal, book, pamphlet or other source must be included. Remember to utilize APA formatting
