Sound cards come with a lot of benefits which include: Support for more audio channels- 5.1 and 7.1 channel audio offers more ports for better surround sound speaker systems and directional audio in headphones. Adding more and better audio ports to a system that does not have them Take some load off of a CPU- by handling the sound processing part. More accurate bass- there is an upgrade in how much clearer you'll be hearing the audio. Customizability. A dedicated sound card might be warranted in a situation where the integrated audio on your motherboard is faulty and needs a replacement. Instead of having to buy a whole new motherboard just for the integrated audio, you can just install a sound card, which will take a load off of your computer in the process.
