The Self Portrait Art Presentation and Written Essay
Create a visual, oral and written art presentation about art and yourself.
You will be creating a visual self portrait using all of the textbook chapters from this semester.
Use photos, images, research, artists and personal connections.
Document your sources in MLA format. Read the requirements below and watch the videos for inspiration.
Requirements to be included in the presentation:Students may create a presentation using such methods as Powerpoint Presentation, Prezi or Googleslides.Narration and recording a video can be done with a variety of programs such as iMovie, or within the Powerpoint and Prezi apps.Presentations must include the following information (all are required and each should include a visual): 1. Research an artwork you relate most to yourself:
- image of artwork
- title of the work
- media (process by which it was made, materials used)
- size (dimensions)
- year it was completed
- name (s) of artist (s)
2. Compare the artwork to yourself: describe why you selected this work 3. Describe the Art elements, design principles of the artwork (refer to Chapter 2)4. Interpretation of Themes and/or subject matter of the artwork researched:
- How do you interpret what this artwork means,
- how does that relate to yourself?,
5. Describe the Time period and historical atmosphere in which the artwork was made:
- What was happening in the country in which the artist lived?
- What was happening around the world?
- How do you think that is significant to relating it to yourself?
6. Indicate the Geographical location and culture in which the artwork was made7. Create your own self portrait: Create a portrait of yourself using photography, art materials, collage, video, poetry, music, or any other ideas you may have. Take a photo of the results and include in your presentation. -Describe the art elements and design principles of your self portrait-Describe the themes or concepts behind your self portrait-Describe the content/context of your self portrait-Indicate the geographical location and time period in which your self portrait is made-Describe the current events of your time that is relevant to your self portrait9. Works Cited List, reference your sources for all books, websites used, (MLA format) -Required two book or magazine sources: one is your textbook-Required one digital source10. Design: make a visually appealing presentation- use images of the researched artist, artist's artwork, images of locations and materials, colors, documentary photos of yourself working on the project, patterns, beautiful fonts, etc. Include sound and textures.Write a Visual Analysis Essay, 500word minimum
- Write a formal essay using your observations, art elements/principles, chapter reading, and class experiences.
Paper basics: MLA format; Cover sheet with image of selected work on front; three pages typed, double spaced. Use at least two sources to aid in writing your essay. One source is your textbook. Reference an idea, artist, artwork or style from your source and document using MLA style format. Do not directly copy ideas, words or simple paraphrasing, which all are considered plagiarism.
