Make an analysis of the Consolidated Balance Sheets.
1. What do you see? The Long-term Debt has increased considerably...does that concern you? How is that explained in the notes to the financial statements? Consider the reasonableness of your answer.
2. Read the Notes to the Consolidated Financial Statements. What do you see? What do you learn that may be of a concern to you if any? Do the explanations in the notes answer all of the questions you might have related to the numbers in the financial statements? Do you overall glean any Financial Risks? Operating Risks? Geographical Risks? Market Risks? Consider the reasonableness of your answer.
3. Create ratio models in excel- You should take the numbers given in the financials and use them to come up with ratios and other analytical formulae you have covered in class to support your analysis. EX: say you want to analyze the balance sheet, working capital is a great way to do that, use excel to calculate it with the numbers provided in the financial statement. Your analysis will talk about working capital, excel will support the calculation, and it’s all fueled off the numbers in the apple case.
4. Talk about bonds in general as well as Apple′s bonds in the report. The government bond would be the closest you could get. I will ask you what is a bond and to look accordingly in that section.
