Statistics on remote work within the DoD In fiscal 2022, the percentage of telework-eligible employees at the Defense Department was 89%, while the percentage of employees who were teleworking was 38%, according to data kept by the Office of Personnel Management. Additionally, Federal employeesincluding those allowed to teleworkspend the vast majority of their time working in person. With the exception of fully remote staff, nearly80%of the working hours of all federal employees were in person in 2024, according to an OMB survey. Counting only telework-eligible employees,61%of working hours were in person, significantly exceeding OMB's current expectation that teleworking teams work in person at least50%of the time (Partnership for public service, 2023).
