Manager George Deva was shocked when Stephen Washington, a highly talented developer and one of his best employees, announced his resignation. Stephen was a productive worker who spent all of his time in his workspace. He seldom went out to lunch, or participated in informal discussions with colleagues. His co-worker Marcia was different. She often talked to colleagues and went with them for coffee or lunch. It seemed to Stephen that Marcia was favored when it came to getting assignments that could help her advance in her career. Stephen decided that he was being unfairly denied opportunities, and should go somewhere he might be appreciated.
