Problem: Manny is mowing his yard. He wants to calculate the area that he needs to mow. He splits his yard into his front yard (question #1) and back yard (question #2). Work through the problems below to find the total area he needs to mow.

1)Find a polynomial that describes the area of the lawn which Manny has to mow in his front yard. The diagram shown below is his front yard. Note: There are not any obstructions in the front yard. Hint: The polynomial in your final answer should have three terms and must be completely simplified.

2)Find a polynomial that describes the area of the lawn which Manny has to mow in his backyard. The diagram below represents his backyard. The green area is where he needs to mow. He will NOT mow through the shed (the orange rectangle). Hint 1: The area of the lawn is the area of the large rectangle minus the area of the smaller rectangle.Hint 2: The polynomial in your final answer should have three terms and must be completely simplified.

3)Find the total area that Manny needs to mow.

Hint: Add the area from question #1 and #2 together to find the total area.
