Random Sampling with Movies

Student Learning Outcomes: Students will use different sampling

techniques to randomly select movies from a list.

Materials: Random Number Generator

Procedure: The attached table (on back )shows popular movies for the years 2015 2018 classified by genre. Use it to to answer the following ques- tions. Make sure that you show your work by assigning random numbers to movies in the list and by also writing down the random numbers that were generated by your calculator.

1. You will use a stratified sample. Stratify by genre to select a sample of 20 movies. Sample 25% of movies from each stratum.

3. You will use a cluster sample. Cluster by year to select a sample of 2 clusters. The number of movies in your list will vary. Write down which clusters were selected.
