Measure the length and diameter of the cylindrical specimen and the diameter of the spherical specimen using the ruler and the Vernier caliper. Record these data in Table 2. The sample is placed between the anvil and the spindle or screw. The distance traveled by the screw is controlled by rotating the thimble. One reads the linear scale in the sleeve and adds the reading on the circular scale that is found in the thimble. In the micrometer that is provided, the main linear scale is 1mm.
