Metandigenous Understanding Exercise

Objective:

To develop your awareness and understanding of the importance of incorporating Indigenous matters into the stakeholder relationship models of companies. You will learn how to consult and apply key criteria or aspects that ensure respect, recognition and collaboration with Indigenous peoples and communities in Canada.

Instructions:

For this exercise, you will need to do the following steps:

Choose a situation of a company that involves Indigenous matters in Canada. For example, you can choose a situation such as the development of a product, a project, or the arrival in a new area, among others.

Consult the key criteria or aspects that ensure that Indigenous matters are adequately incorporated into the stakeholder relationship models of companies. You can use the library search results to find some sources of information on these criteria or aspects. Some examples of these criteria or aspects are the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, the principles of free, prior and informed consent, and the Indigenous rights and self$-$determination discussions. Specialized sites from SFU and UBC are also good options of sources.

Compare and analyze how the company's actions have been in that situation against the criteria or aspects consulted. You can use the web search to find some sources of information on the company's actions.

Draw conclusions about the company's performance in incorporating Indigenous matters into its stakeholder relationship model. You can use the following questions to guide your analysis: Does the company work correctly or not? Why or why not? What criteria or aspects are applied correctly or not? How could the company improve its performance? What are the benefits and challenges of incorporating Indigenous matters into its stakeholder relationship model?

You should include an introduction, a main body and a conclusion in your report.

In the introduction, you should briefly describe the situation of the company you chose, the purpose of your report and the main criteria or aspects you consulted.

In the main body, you should compare and contrast the company's actions with the criteria or aspects consulted, using evidence and examples from your sources to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the company's performance.

In the conclusion, you should summarize your main findings, recommendations, and implications for incorporating Indigenous matters into stakeholder relationship models of companies.
