Each trial began with an array of four faces gazing at a center box at the bottom of the screen. After 600 msec, a letter ("L" or "R") appeared within the center box, and participants responded by pressing a key on the left for "L" or a key on the right side for "R." Shortly after making the key press, the second task began. The faces shifted to gaze at one of two target locations at the sides of the display. A dot then appeared in one location (congruent or incongruent with the L/R cue and the correct response to the cue) and participants responded by pressing the space bar as soon as they saw the dot. In the Neutral condition, two faces looked at the left target area and two faces looked at the right target area. In the All-Towards condition, all four faces looked at the location where the dot would appear. In the Most-Towards condition, three of four faces looked at the dot location; in the Most-Away condition, three
