MethodologyIntroduction:This chapter describes the methodology used in the study to attain the purpose. This chapter outlines the research methods utilized in this study in five sections as follows.3.1 Research Design:The study is following a longitudinal design and it is a type of correlational research in which researchers observe and collect data on a number of variables without trying to influence those variables. Longitudinal studies employ continuous or repeated measures to follow particular individuals over prolonged periods of timeoften years or decades. The study also following a descriptive design. Descriptive researchaims to accurately and systematically describe a population, situation or phenomenon. It can answer what, where, when and how questions, but not why questions. A descriptive research design can use a wide variety of research methods to investigate one or more variables.3.2 Sampling:3.2.1 Sampling technique: we use Stratified random sampling is a technique used to ensure that different groups within a population are represented proportionally in a sample. to ensure representation from various industries in Oman. The number of SMEs registered with the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development rose by 46.8 percent to reach 81,460 at the end of July 2022 compared to 55,491 during the same period in 2021, according to the statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). And it means divide subjects into subgroups called strata based on characteristics that they share (11 Governorates of the Sultanate of Oman). The number of SMEs in Muscat Governorate amounted to 27,400, representing 33.6 percent of the total SMEs registered. Followed by North Al Batinah Governorate at 12,538, Al Dakhiliayh Governorate at 9,104, Dhofar Governorate at 8,584, South Al Batinah Governorate (5,975), North Al Sharqiyah (5,563), South Al Sharqiyah Governorate (4,928), Al Dhahirah Governorate (4,110) and Al Buraimi Governorate at 1,617 SMEs, respectively. Once divided, each subgroup is randomly sampled using another probability sampling method.3.2.2 Population: The population in the sample frame will be the total number of SMEs registered in Oman. The total number of small and medium enterprises registered in the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authoritys register reaches more than 104,000 by the end of June 2023, including 89,000 micro enterprises, 14,000 small enterprises and 1,000 medium enterprises. (N=104000)3.2.3 Sample size: The ideal sample size (n) is 383 for a population (N) of 104000 SMEs. The study has estimated the same by using the RAO soft online.3.2.4 Selection criteria: selection criteria refer to the specific factors or characteristics that are used to choose or select something. In the context of our research, the selection criteria would be the specific factors or criteria used to select the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that will be included in the study. We have used mainly two selection criteria; firstly, the sample respondent should be an SME and finally it should be registered under the Value Added Tax law in Oman.
