Metric rules are read the same as decimal-inch rules, but the units have
different names. To read a metric rule, follow these steps:
Study the major divisions which are in centimeters (cm): 1,2,
3 and on to 9 cm .
Each centimeter is divided into 10 millimeters ( mm ) along one
edge of the rule and into 12 millimeters (20 divisions) along the
other. (1 cm equals 10 mm or 2012mm).
For a reading of 37 millimeters, start at zero, move to the major
division marked 3(3 centimeters =30 millimeters), on to the
mid-division mark representing 35 and count 2 additional
divisions which represents 37 millimeters.
