Question:
Michael Crosby, I currently do not belong to any professional organizations that I am aware of, but I do work for FedEx while I am in school and I aim to earn a degree that will teach me the fundamentals of IT, as well as prepare me for a good paying job in that field.
To me professionalism, as it relates to IT and other areas of life, is maintaining a good work ethic and always being willing to adapt to changes in the field so that I may be the best person for the job. According to a document published by the United States Department of Labor (Professionalism, n.d.), professionals "communicat[e] effectively and appropriately and always find a way to be productive. (...) [They must also] be responsible, ethical, and team oriented, and possess strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills." Which I would say is an apt description of what it means to be a professional and would likely positively affect the workplace environment by setting a good example and helping things go smoothly.
According to ROI CX Solutions, professionalism is important because good customer service leads to retention of customers/clients and all-around satisfaction and reflects a trustworthy atmosphere of who you work for or with.
