Overview:

You are tasked with developing applications to meet specified requirements of a company in

three different areas: production planning, quality control, and customer segmentation. An

overview of the applications follows. Specific tasks are explained in detail later in the document.

Production planning: The company supplies $5$ types of products to a retailer. It is contractually

obligated to meet the demands of the retailer. Because of limited capacity the company may not

have sufficient machining time, assembly time, and finishing time available to satisfy the entire

demand through its in$-$house production. Contractual obligation requires the company to make

up any shortfall by procuring the products, at higher costs, from an outsourcing partner. The

company aims to meet the retailer's demands at minimum cost. You must formulate the problem

as a linear programming model, solve the model using available data to find an optimal

production plan, and identify ways to improve the production process through sensitivity

analysis.

Quality control: You must use analytics to help improve the company's quality control process.

It currently uses a battery of $30$ tests to determine batch quality. Using available data, you need

to investigate whether any of these $30$ tests may be eliminated, thus reducing costs, without

adversely affecting the quality control process. Specifically, you must identify a small set of

rules based on a subset of these $30$ tests that can reliably predict batch quality.

Customer segmentation: To expand its customer base, the company has obtained data on

customer characteristics. Customers are segmented into categories based on their likelihood of

purchasing the company's products. Your task is to develop a model that can use a customer's

characteristics to predict whether the customer is likely to buy the company's product.
