Model an Extend Sim Process

Consider any operation/process/system you are involved with or have an interest in. It can be a component of a manufacturing or service process where you are employed or any other process you are interested in (e.g., a church, daycare, fast food, etc.).

- Define the goal of the process - (2 sentences). What is trying to accomplish (i.e., if it is Wendy's hamburger - to average less than 30 seconds from the time of order to food delivered).

- Define the process into a number of steps (similar to what we had in our homework for the truck docks). Provide a diagram defining each step in the process. Please provide a diagram (you can hand draw it). Provide 2 sentences for each step in the process. Be sure to include how you will determine the characteristics of each step (i.e., normal distribution, etc). How will it be estimated?

- With respect to the process steps provide a simple "risk" statement. What are you most concerned with in providing your estimates (e.g., to estimate the time to complete........we; do not have actual data, we will employ to ........for our estimate).

- Model in Extend Sim the process you are planning. Execute at least a 100 iteration simulation. Provide an analysis of each "activity" and queue in your model. (You must have at least 3 activities and 3 queues in your model). Provide a screenshot of the Extend Sim model. Provide an overall analysis (i.e., how will is it meeting the goal outlined in (1) above. Provide charts or tables to display your results. Provide brief, succinct and to the point analysis. We are not looking for a lot of words; we are looking for a lot of Information/Knowledge!

- Modify your model based upon the results of (4) above. Provide a similar analysis as in (4)

- Modify your model based upon the results of (5) above. Provide a similar analysis as in (4/5)

- The model thus far has presented production results (i.e., time to complete ......, the probability that a unit will complete prior to .......). Most models do not provide results with respect to ....... Is the unit successfully produced...... Two weeks ago we introduced the concept of reliability engineering. Apply a reliability estimate to your model. Be sure to provide a chart clearly demonstrating your analysis.

- Provide an alternative analysis of (8) above by altering the reliability components or the necessity for redundant/parallel processing to achieve the desired goals.

- Comment on this lab - did you find it useful to your engineering career advancement!
