Modifications to Experiment A: Thin Layer Chromatography The procedure for this experiment is in the Pedersen textbook. It is called Experiment 7, Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). For your Table of Chemicals this week, just write down names and structures for aspirin, acetaminophen, caffeine, ibuprofen, p-cymene, biphenyl, ethanol, ethyl acetate, acetic acid, hexane, toluene, and acetone. No need for amounts, molecular weights, etc. Please include the following modifications when writing the procedure in your lab notebook: 1. This experiment will be completed in groups of 3 students (instead of groups of 4 as instructed in the manual). 2. The following additional compounds should be evaluated in Part I. This means each TLC plate should have six lanes. p-cymene biphenyl 3. The following six solvent systems should be evaluated in Part I (two extra compared to the list in the lab manual). Each person will be responsible for two of the following solvent systems: 10:10:1 toluene : ethyl acetate : acetic acid 50:50 hexanes : ethyl acetate 100% hexanes 80:20 hexanes : acetone 50:50 hexanes : acetone 100% acetone 4. Part II will remain unchanged (i.e., group will still choose the best two solvents
