Module 1 Discussion: Icebreaker

Scroll down and read all directions. For each discussion, you must post your own reply to the prompt before you are able to access your classmates' posts. In addition to your reply to the prompt, you should respond to at least one classmate; you are welcome to reply more often. Your initial reply to my prompt is considered substantive (and counts) when you write ... words on the topic (give word count); responses to your classmates are considered substantive (and count) when they are a minimum of ... words.

Discussion Topic:

This week's discussion is an icebreaker. Post a paragraph in which you address the following questions (do not repeat the questions in your post):

1. What does everybody know about you?
2. Is there anything that very few people know about you? What is it?
3. What would you like your classmates to know about you?

In addition to your initial post, you must also respond to at least one of your classmates.

Grading Rubric for Discussion Think of this discussion as the equivalent of your participation in a face-to-face class. The icebreaker discussionwill be graded on a scale of 1 - 10 using the following criteria.

• 2 points - Be thorough. Address every part of the assigned prompt AND meet the word count: initial post
• 2 points - Content of initial response is relevant and your thoughts are developed.
• 4 points - Thoughtful reply of words to at least classmate.
• 1 point - Spelling and grammar are correct. Remember that this is a writing course, so demonstrate your knowledge of effective writing skills by proofreading and editing your work.
• 1 point - Posted on at least two different days during the week.
