Describe the project implementation performance; are there any concerns? If so, what?
Are the requested changes expected to impact the project scope, schedule, and cost? If so, how? How will the project plan be affected as a whole?
Then, based on the tools and techniques or practices discussed in Part IV, entitled Project Implementation Tools, of the textbook, offer a recommendation to improve the project implementation performance.Globat Green Books Publishing is producing customized eBooks for a local colege. It has just
recehred a large arder for a new elook on Strategic Human Resource Managevnont in a Global
Context from a serior profegsor in the business school. This distinguistied facilly menter is
dissatsfied with the current textbeoks, and warts a custemized eBook for cae with her on-
campus courses, graduate seminars, and her execulioe education courses. This is the most
complex eBook that Giobsl Green Books has undertaken. Because this project is so important
to the protessor, and wil be used in 80 many different sefings with differemt schedules, the
professor mode sure that she had her complete eBlook request in early to allow sufficient time
for production. She had selected a broad set of the best papers and had written an introduction
and background, along with discussian questions for each section. This meant that this project
was going to have an extensive set of permissions to acquire before production could happen,
as well as a large amount of deskilop publshing for the new materials writien by the professor.
She was quile certain that she had given Gickel Green Books mere than encugh time to have
her eBcok ready beflore the frist class needed in.
This large eBook went through the check and verify order step with a bit of back and forth with
the professor to verity the information needed for the extensive number of permissions, so that
started the prajoct oft with a bit of a delay. Because there were so many permissions, the
Supervisor who planned this project, acoelerated the work on obtaining permissions to make
sure that all the permissions were received before they needed to start assembling and colating
the eBook in production.
As the Publishers Liason worked through the extensive list of permissions, the Customer
Service Representative for the business school at the colege started roceiving several inputs
from the college about this project. One set of inputs was a continuing series of requests from
the professor. As new papers were relessed, she wanted to make a number of additions to the
eBook. Aso, as tme went on and she had more tme to review her eBook plans, she started
identifying some changes that she wanted to make to her plarned eBook.
Another input came from the business manager at the colege bookstare, as he was quite
concerned about the projected oost of this eBlook. Because this eBlock induded so mary
reprints of existing articles and chapters, the estimated cost of the book was quite high. The
colloge expected their elooks to be delivered at a law cost, as its bocksiore costs had to cover
the bookstore overhead (severs for sales and distribution of the eBooks and marketing costs)
and the bockstare's markup, as well as the costs of the eBook from Global Green Books. The
Global Green Bocks costs had to incorporate all the permigsions costs, ass well as al of the
desklop publishing and production costs.
The Customer Service Representative communicated these issues to several people within
Global Green Bocks: the acoount manager for the college account, the supervisor managing
production for this eBlook, the Publishers Liaison obtaining permissions for this book. The
account manager was concemed about upsetting this important customer, the supervisor didn't
know how thege various requests could all be acxommedsted of how it wouk impact his project,
and the Publiahers Liaison was worried beth about added costs for new permissions and the
time it would take to get them and the costs they had alresdy expended for permissions no
lenger needed.
And the protessor's requests just kept coming, of an incressing rate as in got cleser to her
deadline for needing this eBook.
The supervisor was starling to make sonse estimates of what each change requested by the
professor woild cost
An eatra $500 for each new permission needed, in addion to the $500 already spent for
each perrission alfesdy acquired that can no longer be used
Two hours of Publishers Liaison effort for each new pemission neoded at an
unburdened post of $22 per hour (loaded cost is $55 with a 1.5 overhead rate)
One hour of supervisar time for replanning esch change at an unb
