You have been learning about vectors, what they are, how to combine them and determine direction and length$-$very important concepts in our class. Here's a chance to make some vectors that may get you through rough waters...

The Nestucca is an Oregon coastal river. A section of the river is $35$ feet wide and a speed of $2\mathrm{.}2$ feet per second northwest $($meaning exactly halfway between north and west$).$ Viewing north as the positive $y-$axis, construct a vector that models the flow of the Nestucca.

Suppose that you are standing on the shore and would like to paddle a kayak to the opposite shore $10$ feet downriver from the spot directly across from where you are standing. Make a vector that represents the direction you would like to travel.

If you can paddle $2\mathrm{.}5$ feet per second and you aim straight across $($meaning perpendicular to the river's flow$),$ where will you land on the other side $?$ You will need to figure out the time it takes you to reach the other side.

Explain how you could make some adjustments to reach the point $10$ feet downriver from the spot directly across from you.
