Mr. Carp has a fish pond on his property. He has had this pond for many years
Question:
Mr. Carp has a fish pond on his property. He has had this pond for many years and keeps it well maintained. Recently he has been having problems with algal blooms in his pond. The only thing he thinks has changed is the property uphill from his pond has hired a company to maintain the lawn and they fertilize the lawn. The pond has no barrier between the water from uphill to the pond.
Describe several experimental approaches to determine what is causing the algal bloom. Keep in mind this can include what chemically or physically is causing the bloom and/or where the source of the pollution is coming from. Be creative -this can include lab based or field based experiments.
What methods would be useful that you have reviewed in class to measure the pollutants in the pond that are related to algal blooms? Include the pollutants and the methods you think would be best for this problem.
How would you alleviate this problem?
