MT302-4: Apply teamwork concepts to an organizational problem.
PC-1.2: Contribute to team goals and objectives through active participation and collaboration.
Instructions: You will simulate working in a team in this assessment. Read the scenario and documents, and then address the checklist items.
Scenario:
AllianceStar Research is a relatively new company that uses highly skilled and qualified industry analysts to provide research and analysis using analytics for over 20 industries.
For the first 3 years, they have mostly addressed client needs from technology, pharmaceutical, energy, and a few government contracts.
There are currently five teams of five analysts. The analysts from Teams 13 work on the technology and energy contracts and complain that their hours exceed 55 hours per week and often 60. Some overworked analysts have been coming late to work or calling in sick. The company provides salaries of $85,000 per analyst. Some analysts in Teams 13 are despondent and say they should be allowed to work from home so they can at least be around their families since they work so many hours.
The CEO and president, Terry Ealy, is an ENTJ on the MBTI personality typology. He does not see a reason for anyone arriving late to the office or needing to work from home.
The analysts in Teams 4 and 5 mostly work with pharmaceutical companies and on government contracts, take an hour for lunch, and leave at 5 p.m. daily. They do not see the problem, although lately, in company meetings, they have been raising questions about when they will get some different types of projects. The CEO has noticed that Teams 4 and 5 sometimes return late from lunch. Teams 13 have accrued a lot of sick days. He worries that he is not addressing some problems, which could seriously affect his business if they worsen. However, the CEO does not have an HR person and has been doing the HR duties using HRM software.
The CEO has decided to put one analyst from each team (5 total) on a problem-solving team to address the problems. You can refer to this problem-solving team as Alliance Team 1.
Follow the team process steps shown in the Practice Activity.
Read the initial team meeting dialogue between the five team members (including you) in Alliance Team 1 after they all introduced themselves.
After the initial meeting, you realize your problem-solving team got off-track based on the team process steps you are aware of. You decide to get the team back on track in the second meeting.
