NARMADA RIVER CASE STUDY

Roshna is the $23$ year old girl from a small village situated on the banks of the river Narmada. The sarpanch Adhir Ranjankumar of the village is a person of poor vision and has done almost nothing for the village. Enjoying clout from the higher ups in the govt he survives. The village frequently during monsoon gets inundated in some parts and the mighty river Narmada gets swollen many a times leading to cut off on the opposite side of the village of river bank, the population on both sides of the river was very less.

In one such situation the swollen river does not show any sign of abetment with rains adding to the woes of the village. Many villagers had business deals across the river. Roshna had a boyfriend named Ajay staying on the other side of the river. She was very worried as she had not meet him for almost a week. She decided to cross the river anyhow and find his whereabouts. She comes to the river bank and asked the boatman Akhilesh bhaiya to take her across. He demanded a hefty sum which she could not afford and hence the deal could not take place. She had a common friend called Sharadrao who refused to intervene and broker the deal. Sharadrao sensed that no monetary gain was possible in the deal and hence refused to help. Another boatman was Rahul popularly called Pappubhaiya offered to ferry her across the river without any monetary condition but asked for a kiss as the compensation to the journey. Roshna was taken aback and she told Pappu not to demand such a thing but she was willing to pay a reasonable amount for the journey. Pappu refused and started going away. Roshna made a quick decision and agreed to kiss him with a promise that he will never ever make such demand in future. Pappu agreed and she kissed her and he ferried her across the river.

She quickly gets down and finds Ajay safe. She was overwhelmed with joy and hugged and kissed him. She then narrated him the incident with Pappu $.$ Ajay was furious and slapped her. At that very moment Ajay's dad entered the room and saw Ajay slapping Roshna. Without asking for the explanation, father took out his belt and hit Ajay more than three times.
