Narrative Point of View Assignment

For this assignment write two versions of the same story. This time, however, you will tell a story from your own experience. The story can be funny, scary, sad or just interesting.

Step 1 - Question Write a story as though you were telling it to a friend who wasn't there. Tell it from your own point of view, using first person pronouns such as "I". Try to include all the elements of the narrative structure as you tell your story. In writing a narrative paragraph, you will still follow the steps of the Creative Process. You have answered the first one: Question. What story will I tell?

Step 2: Plan In writing a narrative paragraph, your Plan section is usually simple: tell the story in the order it happened. Research will probably not be necessary, since you were there. Time to Create! Write your narrative in your notebook, in a Google slide or Word doc. Whatever is easiest for you :)

Step 3: Create Who else could tell your story? Choose someone who had their own first person perspective, not someone you told the story to later. If your story is about running from a scary dog, why not tell it from the dog's point of view? Or the other person on your first date? How would that person (or dog!) experience it differently and what different details would they include or leave out

Step 4: Improve Read over both paragraphs and reflect. In a written reflection, answer the following questions: How has the story changed now that you've changed the narrator? Does it still feel like your story? Why or why not?
