Description of the Assignment - The Commodification of the Self

We communicate things about ourselves through our use of commodities, which are physical objects infused with social meaning.

On a piece of paper, list at least (20) twenty physical items that you own and/ or control that are important to you. Designer Labels and/ or Brand Names should be included whenever possible, if it matters.

Next, reflect about how the physical items you chose relate to 10 (you decide which 10 terms you want to use) of the 16 Critical/Sociological Terms mentioned below. You can use any other additional sociological terms from the book if they relate to your items and social identity. However, those should be in addition to the required 10 terms.

Then, make a Video (between 6 and 9 minutes long) in which you describe, and discuss each of the twenty items through the lens of the Critical/Sociological Terms.
