The company has an assembly plant located in Kelowna, where all models are assembled, tested and packaged. Parts used for the assembly of motorcycles are shipped to the assembly plant from other plants of the company located in the United States and Germany. The company has recently launched two new models: AR1250 and AR1350. The suggested retail price is $12,000 for AR1250 and $14,000 for AR1350. It takes three labour hours to assemble each AR1250. In addition, 2.5 hours is spent in the testing department and 0.5 hours is spent in the packaging department for the AR1250 model. Each AR1350 model requires 4.5 hours of assembly, 1.25 hours in testing and 1 hour in packaging. For the next month, the plant manager can dedicate up to 900 labour hours for assembly, up to 500 labour-hours for testing and up to 200 labour hours for packaging The hourly labour costs are $35 per hour for assembly time, $32.50 per hour for testing time and $20 per hour for packaging. The costs for the parts used for assembly are $4500 and $S700 for the AR1250 model and AR1350 model, respectively. The number of already committed and anticipated orders far exceeds management's forecast for both models. Management has met with the Marketing and Sales department and they have decided that at least 30% of the total production must be allocated to the AR1350 models. Furthermore, they have decided that at least 50 AR1350 models should be fabricated in their first production month. a) Formulate the problem into "proper LP format" to determine the number of units of each model to make in the first production month in order to maximize the total contribution to profit.
